New Year New Look
Well this year has began and I must say that I have finally gotten a chance to upgrade my own website. I have a lot of plans for this year including my thoughts on various different things. As a small business owner here in Indianapolis, Indiana I have found out a thing or two about working from home, balancing family, church, and company time. Its tough, but if your diciplined and determined you can get it done.
Lets begin with the full scope of 2015. I am expecting for my business to finally break the mark where I can be considered a small business instead of a freelancer, or hobbiest. I have seen a steady incline in business since really sitting down to organize myself as Austin Pen & Pixel. Before my final organization in November of 2011, I would just do small odd jobs and get by with working a 9 to 5. Once my full time job went under, I decided to really put in some work and I have been seeing in pay off. At first it was very difficult to stay focused as I searched tirelessly on craigslist and other free want ad websites to find more odd jobs. Now I hardly ever get the opportunity to search on those websites for new business. I have grown from not knowing much about running my own business to knowing just a little bit about it. Growing in this manner has kept me up plenty of nights until the next morning coding and learning new things. I now have a new respect for people in management. Sorry I think I am a little bit of everywhere with this. I promise as time goes on I will get better at keeping my thoughts inline.
Balancing family and church has been the easiest of transistion mainly due to the fact that I really only need about 5 hours of sleep, and the children are old enough to care for themselves with instruction. Often times I would like to watch a movie or two with my wife, but when I have a big job it seems to put my mind in over drive. Once I am able to get a grasp on the project then I typically slow down, but by then she is busy. So I go back to the grind and start learning more or doing some other research. I guess with our schedules not really matching up all of the time we both love to go to church and this is a requirement for us. Since we both love the Lord we typically talk on the way to, coming home, and often times while I am working we are discussing things. To me this works but I am not 100% sure if it works for her as of yet, at least she hasn't said much about it to me. I know what your thinking, but she will voice her opinion. I remember I used to play the Madden online a lot and I would be fully engauged in it and she would stand right in front of the television and say "Hey I need some face time", so I know she will speak up if she is feeling neglected. This is just my wife and I love her very much, in fact the reason I decided to go into business for myself was mainly due to her support. Ok got to get back to work now.
